Farmers will be able to easier access subsidies for deforestation of unproductive multiannual plantations. The Cabinet approved the removal of the requirement for farmers to have legally owned the land intended for deforestation for at least five years. Farmers remain, however, obliged to maintain the deforested land according to the practices applied in the next three years, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry noted that, so far, out of the total of 21,000 hectares planned for deforestation, only 15,800 hectares have been dealt with within the Horticulture Development Program for 2021-2025.
The new measure aims to speed up the process and facilitate the achievement of the objectives.
The adopted draft law also stipulates the inclusion of the final processing of agricultural products in the notion of "agricultural activity" eligible for subsidization. Therefore, farmers' access to subsidies will be expanded, stimulating investments in agricultural value chains.
