Two men were killed in fires caused by burning cigarettes on Wednesday, November 25.
Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that a fire happened in a house in Beleavintsy village, Briceni.
At about 5.30, the wife entered the room where her 57-year-old husband was sleeping and found him dead in the bed with the bedclothes damaged by fire. The flames destroyed a part of the objects in the room.
A similar case happened in a house in Opaci village of Causeni district. Two brothers were sleeping in the same room. One of them aged 27 fell asleep with the burning cigarette. In the morning, he was found carbonized in his bed. His brother suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.
The 1,768 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year resulted in 145 deaths. Five of the victims were children.
