The former head of Ialoveni district is investigated for asking for €180,000 from the manager of a company for favoring the selection of this firm as winner of the public tender contest to build a center of symposiums of the European business community in Rusestii Noi village, IPN reports.
It was established that the ex-head of the Ialoveni District Council was chosen as manager of the project and, using his position, he managed to convince members of the group that assessed the bids to choose this firm as winner. For this service, the functionary received €25,000. The rest of the sum was to be transmitted after the completion of the building works. In the same period, the former head exerted pressure on the manager of the wining company, making him to open a bank account abroad where to transfer 10 000 000 lei because the firm’s accounts were sequestrated by the law enforcement bodies of Moldova following the identification of irregularities in its activity.
Prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center carried out searches at the domicile and office of the former head of Ialoveni district and of some of the economic entities and members of the group who took part in the assessment of the bids. The persons involved were summoned for questioning.
The suspect faces 15 years in jail.
