A former mayor of a village of Taraclia district was put on probation for a five-year period for causing damage assessed at about 140,000 lei to the local public administration, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2010 a person won a tender contest to use a publicly owned pond by paying an annual rent of 92,000 lei. But the former mayor set the rent at 17,000 lei a year, for a six-year period.
The ex-mayor was banned from holding public posts for a five-year period and was obliged to fully cover the damage caused by him.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
