Four killed, six hurt in minibus-train collision

Four people were killed and six others were injured after the minibus they were on was struck by a freight Sunday morning near Merenii Noi in Anenii Noi district, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Traffic Police Department, the minibus driver ignored the red light at the junction with the tracks. The collision projected the minibus into a ditch. Three passengers died instantly and a fourth died on the way to hospital. Six others, including the 29-year-old driver, were rushed to the Emergency Hospital in Chisinau. The minibus was taking guests back home from a wedding in Mereni village. A pregnant woman is among the injured. Criminal proceedings were started on this case for the failure to respect traffic rules. A year ago, a similar accident occurred in another Anenii Noi village, when a minibus carrying 17 passengers collided with an engine. Eight people were killed in the accident. The police found the driver had ignored the traffic lights. He was subsequently sentenced to 9 years and a half in prison.
