The public movement “United Gagauzia” sent a letter to the Chisinau City Hall, informing about its intention to sage a protest in front of the Parliament Building. The organization’s administration has told IPN that the reason for the dissatisfaction is the Moldovan lawmakers’ intention to adopt amendments to the Law on the Local Public Finances, which affect the interests of the autonomous unit when forming the budget.

The protest was set for September 26. According to the organizers, it will involve about 400 people.

As IPN reported earlier, the new amendments envision that 25% of the income taxes paid by individuals and 20% of the incomes taxes paid by legal entries will remain in the budget of Gagauzia, instead of 100% as now. Furthermore, only half of the region’s revenues from the value added tax and excises will remain in the local budget. The given amendments were already adopted in two readings and need to be passed in the third, final reading to take effect. The parliamentary factions that represent the government coalition earlier expressed readiness to return to the given bill with amendments so as to eliminate the dilemmas.
