The best actors and best plays of 2017 became known in the 16th Gala of UNITEM Awards that took place at the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau on March 27. Thus, the play “Big Room” by Ion Druta, directed by Sandu Cozub, of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu”, won the award for the best dramatic play. The award for the best direction went to Sandu Cozub for the same play, IPN reports.
The award for the best female role was given to Svetlana Tuz for the role of Maude in Colin Higgins’ “Harold and Maude”, put on at the State Russian Dramatic Theater “A.P. Chekhov”, while the award for the best male role went to actor Arteom Mazur for the role of Vartolomei Sidorovich Kopeikin in Peter Karatygin’s play “House on the side of Saint Petersburg”, produced at the Tiraspol Drama and Comedy Theater “N. Aronetskaya”.
The special jury award was won by the play “Flapper from 13th story or dear society...” by Mircea M. Ionescu, directed by Alexandru Grecu, of the National Theater “Satiricus I.L.Caragiale”. “Legend about a good heart” by Iaroslav Vodrazheka, directed by Svetlana Radu, of the National Puppet Theater “Licurici”. was named the best puppet theater play.
Doina Severin was awarded for the best secondary female role for Sofica in Ion Druta’s “Big Room” staged at the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu”, while Viorel Cornescu won the award for the best secondary male role for Vic Johnson in Ray Cooney’s play “Funny Money”, put on at the National Theater “Satiricus I.L.Caragiale”.
The award for the best children’s play went to the play “The Star-Child” by Oscar Wilde, directed by Boris Focsa, of the Republican Theater “Luceafarul”.
Adrian Suruceanu, of the Republican Theater “Luceafarul”, was awarded for the best scenography in “Male striptease or totally nude” by Anthony McCarten, while Lilia Ixari won the award for the best theater costumes in the play “Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert, staged at the Theater “Geneza Art”.
