Fiodor Ghelici, the representative of the International Organization for Economic Development (IOED) and an outspoken activist, held a news conference on Thursday to express his indignation about the refusal of the Moldovan authorities to accept the opening of an IOED mission in our country, Info-Prim Neo reports. As Ghelici stated, in October Moldova's President Nicolae Timofti received a letter from Teddy Allen, IOED Governor General to Europe, Africa and Asia, with the request to accept an agreement for the opening of an IOED mission in Chisinau, which would enable the organization to assist our country with water supply, disaster management and other social development projects. However, the answer was negative. In a reply signed by Ion Paduraru, the Secretary of the President's Office, the organization was told that it “doesn't meet the conditions set out in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties to be qualified as an international organization under international law”. “I was shocked by the reply”, said Fiodor Ghelici. “I guess the President is totally unaware of this and nobody told him that this is an international organization, an organization which according to documents provides social development assistance to the United Nations across the world. And they say no to us. “They recognize gay rights organizations, yet they don't recognize an organization that helps people like us around the world”, said Ghelici, who is known for his homophobic views. Ghelici thinks that by refusing the help of his organization, the government aims to drive as many people as possible out of Moldova so that it could become a “paradise for homosexuals”.
