The national plan on energy production from renewable sources for 2013- 2020, which was approved by the Government, contains 63 measures under implementation and measures that are to be implemented with a view to promoting the production of electricity from eolian sources and to modernizing the centralized heating system and thermoelectric plants, IPN reports.

By these actions, Moldova aims to fulfill the commitments assumed within the Energy Community Treaty, increasing gradually the share of electricity from renewable sources in the total energy consumption.

An objective is to connect the country’s electric power system to the European system ENTSO-E so as to ensure the capacity reserve for producing electricity from eolian sources.

The tariff for generated electric power from renewable sources of energy will be regulated. The total volume of auctioned capacities will be about 400 MW until 2020.

Under the national plan, the electric power from renewable sources will be generated mainly by eolian energy installations, biogas and small hydroelectric installations.

As a member of the Energy Community Treaty, Moldova pledged that the energy from renewable sources will reach 17% by 2020. The objective of the EU member states is 20%.
