Grigore Vieru could have a bust on Classical Writers Alley on his birthday

A bust of Grigore Vieru might be installed on the Classical Writers Alley in the central park on February 14, when it is the poet’s birthday. The design of the bust will be selected by an open contest held by the Ministry of Culture. The jury will choose the winner on January 11, the jury’s deputy head Nicolae Railean, who is the head of the Ministry’s Patrimony and Tourist Resources Division, has told Info-Prim Neo Eight monumental sculptors have taken part in the contest opened on November 17, 2009. “The size of the bust must be identical with that of the busts placed on the Classical Writers Alley. But the bust must be specific and of a high quality,” Nicolae Railean said. The jury is composed of 17 members that include art critics, scientists and members of the Union of Plastic Artists. Calin Vieru, the son of the late bard and member of the Parliament of Moldova, heads the jury. According to Nicolae Raileanu, it is planned that the bust will be set up on the February 14, 2010, near Liviu Rebreanu’s bust. On its website www.arta.md, the Union of Plastic Artists says any person can submit suggestions and recommendations about contest.
