Gunshots at Moldovan-Romanian border

The Moldovan customs authorities arrested three citizens of Moldova on the Moldovan-Romanian border for attempting to smuggle contraband cigarettes. Together with two Romanian citizens, the Moldovans passed over 24,000 packs of cigarettes over the Prut. During the arrest of the Romanians, the Botosani policemen opened fire, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Iasi Border Police Inspectorate. During a special operation near the Prut, the border policemen of Botosani county saw two persons on the Stanca – Costesti reservoir. When checking the area, the police officers found 20 large batches packed in sacks that contained over 24,000 packets of cigarettes with Moldovan excise stamps. The investigations continue in concert with the Moldovan border authorities.
