President Igor Dodon will request Parliament and the Government to include December 2 (when the Moldovan Democratic Republic was created 100 years ago, e.n.) in the list of official holidays of the Republic of Moldova. He informed about this in a festive meeting dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Moldovan Democratic Republic, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon requested the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research to work in concert with national associations of historians and include a chapter dedicated to the Moldovan Democratic Republic in the history textbooks and also asked the Government, together with the same associations, to publish scientific works dedicated to the history of the Moldovan Democratic Republic in the course of 2018. “Even if not all the requests are accepted, I assure you that the Governments will go and our objectives will be achieved. As long as we keep the statehood, we can be firmly convinced that this country will be left to our successors,” stated the President.
He noted that the celebration of the 100th anniversary of a symbolical event reminds that the Moldovans have always aspired to regain their independence, to defend their statehood and to control the own territory. After December 2, 1917, the Moldovan Democratic Republic by its foreign policy sought international recognition. Romania and France recognized its independence and opened diplomatic consulates in Chisinau.
Igor Dodon said he decreed to constitute a state commission for issuing a jubilee coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the Moldovan Democratic Republic. In the meeting, there was launched the second part of the documentary “History of Moldova”. The first part was presented on November 13, when President Dodon celebrated a year in office.
The Moldovan Democratic Republic was a state whose independence from the Russian Empire was proclaimed by the People’s Council of Bessarabia, which was the representative body of the population from the region, on December 2, 1917. On January 24, 1918, the republic declared its independence, while on March 27, 1918, the People’s Council voted the union with Romania.
