Teachers and school staff now have access to the first educational resource dedicated to teaching young people about tobacco and nicotine products. The material was developed as part of the "Smoke-Free Future" project, implemented between April and December by the Center for Health Policies and Analyses, IPN reports.
The resource provides current, evidence-based information on new tobacco and nicotine products, focusing particularly on heated tobacco products and electronic cigarettes. It addresses issues related to nicotine and explains in an accessible way the processes behind nicotine addiction. It also highlights why adolescents are more vulnerable to developing nicotine dependence compared to adults.
In addition to teachers, the resource can be used by specialists from youth-friendly health centers and professionals working with adolescents and young adults.
The teaching resource includes additional tools, both informational and interactive, for engaging with students: learning how to say "no," Q&A sections, information for parents, and useful resources.
Over 200 teachers from Chisinau, Balti, and Cahul were trained as part of the "Smoke-Free Future" project to support them in teaching this topic in schools.
