An independent commission will examine how the personnel of the Mother and Child Institute provided medical assistance and respected the medical ethics and deontological norms in the case of the woman who says that she had to give birth alone in the hospital’s toilet. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection announced that it opened an internal inquiry into this case, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry says the commission will consist of: Iurie Dondiuc, chairman of the Ministry’s expert obstetrics and gynecology commission; Ion Bolocan, obstetrician-gynecologist and lecturer of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “N. Testemitanu”; Rodica Gramma, master of bioethics, health legislation and management and lecturer at “N. Testemitanu” University, and Maria Ursachi, senior midwife at the Municipal Clinical Hospital No.1.
According to the Ministry, such cases are regrettable and need to be considered so as to immediately make changes in the health system, including by creating an institutional body responsible for malpractice and lack of attitude while fulfilling one’s duties.
Last July, a woman from Falesti submitted a complaint to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, accusing she was left alone to give birth to her stillborn baby during three hours. The Ministry examined this case. The medical examination showed the baby died asphyxiated as the mother had high blood pressure.
