Independent Journalism Center presents national mass media audience study

The television and Internet are the main sources of information for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. These are used by 67.8% and, respectively, 61.3% of the consumers of information. Less often, the citizens listen to the radio or read newspapers, shows the audience study carried out by the Independent Sociology and Information Service “Opinia”. This was presented by the Independent Journalism Center.

In a news conference at IPN on December 19, “Opinia” director Olga Danii said Prime TV channel is the most popular with Moldovans. Some 46.7% of the respondents said they watch the programs of this channel. Jurnal TV is watched by 25.8% of those polled. 25.5% watch the public TV channel Moldova 1, 21.3% – RTR, while 21% – ProTV Chisinau. Among the most popular are the news bulletins, films and recreational programs.

Radio Moldova is the most popular station with a rating of 24%. This is followed by Radio Noroc, which is popular with 19.7% of those surveyed. 14.3% like Jurnal FM, 13.3% – Radio Plai, while 10.5% – Kiss FM.

The audience study shows Timpul is among the most read newspapers with a rating of 20.1%. This is followed by Komsomolskaya Pravda, which is read by 19.7% of the respondents. Ziarul de Garda is read by 13.3% of those interviewed, while Jurnalul de Chisinau by 12.9%.

As regards the online media, Point, ProTV, Realitatea, Unimedia, Diez, Agora and Deschide are the most visited websites. Onoklassniki is the most popular social networking site, which is visited by 62.7% of the respondents. Facebook is popular with 39.1% of the Moldovans.

The study was conducted during October 7-24 and covered a sample of 1,200 persons from 68 Moldovan communities. The margin of sampling error is +/-3%. The survey was carried out with the financial support provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency through the agency of the Embassy of Sweden in Chisinau.
