The drivers caught inebriated by police may get banned to drive for up to 5 years, while the motorists caught for a second time – may get penally investigated. Prime-Minister Zinaida Greceanai told a conference on road safety Monday that it's necessary to harshen the traffic regulations in order to reduce the number of crash victims, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Interior Ministry is to consider the issue and make proposals in this respect till December 20. For the same purpose, the police will be endowed with special tools to detect alcohol in drivers. The premier considers to allow only state-owned schools to train drivers. The Education Ministry is to create an electronic registry of graduates of drivers schools and issued certificates. The new drivers will get better tested medically and psychologically. According to the prime-minister's statistics, in 2007, 2,437 road crashes were registered. 2,449 accidents were recorded in the first ten months of 2008, of which 393 died, and 3,030 people were injured. Chidlren die or are injured in 20% of crashes. Most of the accidents, 1,868, happened because of drivers' fault.
