The first stage of the project that is supported financially by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is over. In a news conference held to sum up the results, persons in charge of the project said they already identified the financing needs for the second part of the project, when consumables are to be supplied for the medical devices purchased within the first stage of the project, IPN reports.

The agreement of cooperation with the Japanese side was signed in the autumn of 2013. The first equipment reached Moldova in 2014. Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan said the national authorities assume responsibility for the medical equipment that hasn’t been yet used and for the shortcomings in training specialists to work with the donated equipment. For the purpose, the first training course for Moldovan surgeons will be staged this October.

Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Motome Takisawa said he would like the Japanese medical technology used within this project to help provide medical services of a high quality for the Moldovan people. “I hope this project represents an important basis for the next step in the relations between Japan and the Republic of Moldova,” stated Motome Takisawa.

Japan’s Ambassador in Chisinau Masanobu Yoshii said he wants a new stage of development in the bilateral relations. He noted he will make effort to strengthen further the relations of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Moldova.

The Moldovan-Japanese relations in health intensified in 2013, when Moldova became part of the JICA project that was launched to improve the medical services by purchasing medical and lab equipment for national hospitals. Within the project, five hospitals located in Chisinau, the National Public Health Center and another ten local public health centers were outfitted with modern medical equipment to the value of about 800 million lei.
