Ion Dron, the leader of the initiative group for constituting the Party “For People, Nature and Animals”, said the proposal to create a common list of candidates of the pro-European and unionist parties for the parliamentary elections of February 2019 is aimed at overcoming the blockage witnessed in Moldova for over ten years.
In a news conference at IPN on October 3, Ion Dron said things in Moldova remained stagnant for about ten years. The citizens are hostage to a struggle between two former business partners who are at war. A mechanism for overcoming the impasse is needed. The jurist thus suggests a short, medium and long-term plan of action to the leaders of the pro-European parties.
“The pro-European parties didn’t manage to impose the amendment of the law so that the second round of parliamentary elections was held. Consequently, the second round should be organized by the pro-European and unionist parties in the first round. If we do not manage to do this, I’m almost fully convinced that those who will be nominated pro-European candidates will be slaughtered in the first round,” stated Ion Dron.
According to the jurist, if a common list of candidates is not compiled, the result of the upcoming parliamentary elections is predictable. “In the Republic of Moldova, the European forces assert themselves independently, in a particular sense, but are annihilated from outside by all those who want,” he stated.
Ion Dron noted the pro-European and unionist parties that consider Moldova needs a breath of fresh air are obliged to combine forces. “I’m optimistic and don’t think the hostility between the pro-European leaders is greater than the hostility to the current government. We invite them to a public debate to transmit a message to the voters - that the leaders of the pro-European and unionist parties are guided not by obscure or personal interests, but by the national interest,” he stated.
The leader of the initiative group for constituting the Party “For People, Nature and Animals” announced his intention to run in the parliamentary elections of February 2019, but said he could yet give up. If they manage to form a common list of candidates, he will devote himself to organizational aspects.
