Former Prime Minister of Moldova Iurie Leancă will run in the 2019 elections to the European Parliament on the ticket of the “Pro Romania” Party of Romania. He is the fourth out of 33 candidates on the list, the party’s leader Victor Ponta was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.
Victor Ponta characterized Iurie Leancă as a very good Romanian. He said that important and serious things for Moldova occurred while Iurie Leancă held premiership. “I hope Iurie in the European Parliament will be not only a representative of Romania, but also a representative of the Romanians. He has experience and the training needed to do this,” stated Victor Ponta.
The European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) led by Iurie Leancă and the “Pro Romania” Party at the end of this January signed in Chisinau a cooperation and partnership agreement in a move to give a new impetus to the process of national integration of the Romanians from both sides of the Prut. Under the agreement, the parties aim to strengthen the ties between Moldova and Romania, to cooperate permanently in solving problems faced by the citizens, to step up Moldova’s integration into the EU, to support each other in all the electoral processes and to contribute to the twinning of localities from both sides of the Prut.
The European Parliament election will take place between May 23 and 26, 2019.
