The Ministry of Justice presented authorizations to 21 translators and 9 interpreters in an official ceremony on February 28. Representatives of the Ministry expressed their confidence that the authorized translators and interpreters will have the best performance, IPN reports.
Head of the Ministry’s accreditation and discipline commission Ina Chetrean reminded the translators and interpreters their professional rights and obligations. All the authorized linguists will be included in the State Registers of Authorized Translators and Interpreters.
They will also submit a set of documents to the Ministry of Justice for being issued with permits for a tax of 100 lei.
Petru Musteata was authorized to translate into English and Romanian. Even if he has only six months’ experience in the field, he is sure he accumulated the knowledge needed to do his work best. “It took about three months to obtain an authorization. I took a test and received this document, which confirms that I passed the exam,” he stated.
Virginia Savin also received the authorization today. She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where she attended Slovenian language course. Even if the Slovenian language is not in great demand in Moldova, she already has cooperation offers from translation services.
According to the head of the Ministry’s Protocol, Information and Mass Media Division Rodion Gustiuc, the persons who work in the justice sector need authorizations for being able to work as translators and interpreters. These are persons serving with the Superior Council of Magistracy, the Ministry of Justice, prosecution service, courts of law and translators contracted by notaries, lawyers and bailiffs. No authorization is needed for unofficial translations.
According to the Ministry of Justice, there are about 500 authorized translators and 230 authorized interpreters in Moldova at present.
