There is no shortage of places in kindergartens in Chisinau, but some of them are in particular demand, especially those in the Centru district, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, head of the Municipal Education, Youth and Sport Division, told Info-Prim Neo.
“We have enough places in kindergartens, but some institutions are more demanded than others. Parents are proposed 2-3 options, but they choose the one closer to home or job. Many agree to wait until there is a free place in the kindergarten they prefer. For instance, kindergarten no. 215 on 31 August Street is very popular, while some have free places in other areas”.
The head of the Education Division said that the city had special preschools for children with special needs. However, they are usually integrated in general groups when possible. There is a lot of work to be done in this direction, as mentality issues persist. Some parents don’t want children with special needs in the same playgroup with their own kids.
Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said that there were no other fees paid by parents than the 9 lei per day for food. Nevertheless, most institutions have parents’ associations that often contribute to solving the kindergarten’s problems. If they want a different diet for their children, then the fee increases accordingly.
She added that the state of preschools in suburbs varied from village to village. New kindergartens will be built and the older ones renovated in Sangera and Revaca. Those in Truseni and Budesti have already been repaired.
There are 151 preschool institutions in Chisinau. Kindergarten 133 is undergoing capital repair, while other 37 have been closed for light renovation. Because of low attendance in the summer, 94 playgroups have been merged.
