The heat compensation for March, granted in monetary form, was transferred. This is the last compensation this cold season and the beneficiary families total over 720,000. The on-bill electricity compensation will be granted by the end of the year. Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu presented the results of the government compensation program for November 2024 - March 2025 at a news conference, IPN reports.
The minister noted that the over 720,000 families include more than 1.5 million people. Most of the recipients of heat compensation – almost 340,00 families – use solid fuel, over 216 families – natural gas, over 127,000 families – heat energy, and over 36,000 families use electricity as a heating source.
According to Alexei Buzu, for March, the average value of the compensation was 805 lei. The most vulnerable families received compensation of 1,400 and 1,200 lei. Over the entire period, November 2024-March 2025, the average compensation was 772 lei.
For March, the Government used a budget of 578 million lei to cover the monetary heat compensation and the total budget for this cold season was 2.69 billion lei. The contribution of the foreign partners, especially such EU countries as Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Italy, Estonia, Slovakia, and Norway, was 1.15 billion lei.
The minister noted that the citizens will continue to receive compensation for electricity, on the bill. If the electricity compensation was not included, the suppliers are obliged to recalculate and include the compensation in the following bills.
Alexei Buzu also said that the Government approved budget amendments regarding an energy support package, which were given a first reading by Parliament. Thus, in addition to the compensation granted to families, the local public authorities will also benefit from support to cover the increases in charges for schools, kindergartens, medical institutions, etc.
