The last pesticide stockpile of over 15 tonnes was collected in Falesti district by service members of the National Army. The obsolete pesticides were collected in the villages Navarnet, Panzareni, Glinjeni, Bocani, Marandeni, Iscalau, Egorovca, Hitresti, Reutel, and Pompa and are to be taken to Poland for being destroyed, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Defense.

According to Colonel Mariana Grama, of the Logistics Division of the General Staff, the operational team of the National Army, together with the British company E.S. Field Services Veolia, prepared the export of about 200 tonnes of pesticide waste collected in Falesti. On November 1, obsolete pesticide disposal activities will start at the storehouse in Bugeac village of Comrat district.

The activities are performed within the NATO/PpP Trust Fund project to destroy pesticides and dangerous chemicals in Moldova, which is supported financially by the Government and by such countries as Romania, Poland, Turkey, Italy, the Czech Republic, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, and Japan. The general objective of the project is to dispose of 1,260 tonnes of pesticides kept at 15 central district storehouses. About 830 tonnes of pesticides have been disposed of in Moldova so far.

The NATO/PpP Trust Fund project to destroy pesticides and dangerous chemicals in Moldova was launched in 2003.
