The lawmakers abrogated the law providing for the switchover to the joint electoral system. By the same bill that was passed in two readings on May 3, the election threshold for entering Parliament was raised, IPN reports.

Under the initial variant of the bill proposed by the Communists, the election threshold for parties was to be increased from 4% to 7%, but it was set at 6% at the proposal of the Liberal-Democratic MP Valeriu Strelet. The threshold for blocs consisting of two parties will rise from 7% to 9%, while for blocs composed of three and more parties – from 9% to 11%.

The joint electoral system was introduced at the proposal of the Democratic Party by adopting amendments to the Election Code, which were supported by the Lib-Dems. The bill was passed on April 19. Later, the PLDM demanded creating a commission that would examine the impact of the new system, arguing the bill was adopted in a hurry and there were made many mistakes.
