A female lawyer from Balti was caught in the act of taking US$ 600 for arranging a milder punishment in a criminal case. The woman is suspected of influence peddling. According to the National Anticorruption Center, the lawyer’s acts were denounced by the female defendant in this case, IPN reports.
At end-May, the lawyer, acting in collusion with a person, asked and received money for influencing prosecutors and making them impose a milder punishment on the defendant.
The lawyer was caught red-handed on June 15 and placed under arrest for 72 hours. Influence peddling carries a penalty of up to six years behind bars.
