The Automobile Club of Moldova will carry out the Road Safety Week themed “No to Alcohol!” between July 30 and August 2, with the support of the Traffic Police, Info Prim Neo reports.
“The event is aimed at sensitizing the drivers to the dangers and consequences of drunk driving and informing them about their role in ensuring road safety,” said project manager Natalia Stavnicii. According to the Traffic Police, most of the accidents are caused by drunk drivers.
The traffic police and promoters of the campaign will distribute leaflets on road safety and fines for violating traffic rules today in Chisinau and on Monday in Cahul and Balti.
“Regretfully, only 70% of the drivers have a normal reaction when they are given the brochures. The rest are indignant and refuse to take them,” Natalia Stavnicii said.
According to the Traffic Police, 16 persons have been killed and 115 injured in 83 road accidents caused by inebriated drivers this year.
The Road Safety Week “No to Alcohol!” forms part of the national campaign Make Roads Safe in Moldova, supported by the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society and the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport.
