Ex-Premiers Iurie Leanca and Chiril Gaburici and the former head of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance Veaceslav Ionita were summoned for questioning in the case of Banca de Economii (BEM) on July 14. These were questioned about the circumstances in which money was lent by the National Bank of Moldova to the BEM, Banca Sociala and Unibank in November 2014 and, respectively, March 2015, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the same day the vice governor of the National Bank Ion Sturzu, acting minister of finance Anatol Arapu and the head of the Parliament’s commission of inquiry into the situation in the financial-banking sector Marcel Raducan were questioned on the circumstances related to the banking frauds and the measures taken to ensure security in the financial system.
The prosecutors continue the extended investigations into the frauds committed in the banking system in different periods and are examining the actions taken by the authorities and public institutions of different ranks.
