The licensing of the imports of grain and oilseeds has been extended. Thus, the import of wheat, corn and sunflower into Moldova remains conditional on the license until June 30, 2025. The decision was approved by the Cabinet on Monday.

The further regulation of the importation of these products aims to protect local farmers and maintain the stability of the domestic agricultural market, in the context of the challenges faced in the agri-food sector, officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry announced.

The licensing mechanism for the imports of wheat, corn and sunflower was introduced in October 2023. The licensing prevented a surplus of imports, especially from Ukraine, at significantly lower prices, which would have led to a decrease in the value of local products.

According to data available at the beginning of this December, the supplies of wheat, corn and sunflower are enough to meet all domestic needs in the coming months.
