‘Machines’ directed by ‘barons’ must be transformed into transparent organizations, Alexandru Tanase

“In order to appropriately fulfill their role, the parties should be transformed from ‘machines’ conducted by ‘barons’ or ‘oligarchs’ into transparent organizations, where the votes and voices of the members are taken into consideration,” said judge of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase, who took part in the OSCE Meeting on the Role of Political Parties in the Political Process as a main rapporteur, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Constitutional Court. Alexandru Tanase said the idea that the ruling party is more important that the other parties is widely spread in many states. “In the post-Soviet area, we often have situations in which the parties that win the power use it to intimidate and obstruct the work of other political groups,” said the judge. He stressed that it is not right for the legislative body to be used only as formal mechanism for approving the laws that come from the Government. “The laws passed in Parliament without discussions, consultations and compromises will be always disputed by the Opposition and a part of society,” said Alexandru Tanase. The OSCE Meeting on the Role of Political Parties in the Political Process was held in Warsaw on the occasion of 20 years of the foundation of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, which promotes human rights, democracy and the rule of law all over the OSCE region.
