The police arrested a 51-year-old man who was transporting 24 sacks of sugar without documents of origin. The sugar was to be sold at markets in Chisinau, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, the minibus by which the sugar was conveyed was stopped for a check on the Otaci – Soroca road. The man came under suspicion after the police were informed that up to 3 tonnes of sugar are smuggled daily from Ukraine into Moldova.
The police are collecting evidence with a view to taking a decision in accordance with the law.
