Man gets one year for beating wife

A man from Chisinau was sentenced to one year in jail for maltreating his wife during nine months, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the prosecutors, the man beat his wife regularly, punching and kicking her. The relations between the two were tense. The man was out of work and the family accumulated debts for public utilities. The two did not have children. When the wife tried to persuade her husband to sell their four-room apartment so as to be able to clear the debts, the man started to hit her. He beat her also when she refused to give him money. In May 2011, after beaten and locked inside the apartment, the woman went out on the balcony to seek help. The man called the doctors and told them that she was mentally ill and wanted to jump from the ninth floor. The woman was admitted to the psychiatric hospital, where she had stayed for a week. Earlier, the woman informed the police, but the man was only warned. This time he got one year after reaching an agreement with the prosecutor.
