In half of the cases, the scales used in markets work improperly, shows the latest checks performed by inspectors of the Consumer Protection Agency and specialists of the National Metrology Institute. Senior inspector of the Consumer Protection Agency Natalia Ilashchuk has told IPN that the most often violation is the non-registration of scales in the State Register of Weighing Instruments. A part of the scales were not subject to metrological examination or are placed incorrectly and thus weigh inaccurately.

Inspections were carried out at 17 markets. Nine of these are located in Chisinau, while the others in Soroca, Floresti, Cimislia, Comrat and Balti municipality. Two market administrators were fined by 4,000 lei for not having technical registration certificates allowing leasing out weighing instruments to market traders.

The administration of a number of markets didn’t have the necessary number of scales for enabling all the traders to work. This is against the standard regulations governing the activity of markets.

The consumers who were deceived through scales are urged to go back to the seller and recover the money. If the seller refuses to give back the money, the consumers can contact the Consumer Protection Agency on (022) 74-14-64 and 0 800 280 28 (free call) or go directly to its head office situated at 78 Vasile Alecsandri St, office 101, Chisinau.
