The Independent Journalism Center and the Association of Independent Press consider the TV channels that retransmit foreign propaganda programs and do not comply with the Broadcasting Code provisions concerning correct and equidistant informing of the public must be penalized.

In a news conference at IPN, Nadine Gogu, executive director of the Independent Journalism Center, said the Center proposes that these programs should be excluded from the broadcast schedule and substituted with other, national programs.

According to Nadine Gogu, the last Public Opinion Barometer revealed that the people have more confidence and prefer the Russian TV channels. “This shows that a large part of the population watches Russian TV channels, debate programs where the ethical and deontological principles and the legal provisions are violated,” she stated.

Director of the Association of Independent Press Petru Macovei said the legislation is the same for the national broadcasters and for the companies that retransmit foreign channels. The Association is against banning the retransmission of Russian or other television channels on Moldova’s territory. But, if the law is broken and the programs incite hatred, war and other illegal things, these programs should be replaced by other programs, preferably national ones.
