A man from Tohatin commune and another one from Sangera town of Chisinau municipality died from carbon monoxide poisoning on January 11, IPN reports.
In the January 12 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, deputy head of the Chisinau Emergencies Division Liviu Merzancu said that both of the incidents were allegedly the result of careless smoking.
The 37-year-old man from Tohatin was found dead in his burning apartment. The house fire in Sangera resulted in the death of a man aged 66, who rented the house.
Liviu Merzancu announced also the cause of the fire that happened in an apartment building on Grigore Vieru Blvd on January 5. That fire was caused by a short circuit. A man and a woman were killed in it, while another seven persons, two of whom children, were evacuated by rescuers.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the 79 fires that occurred in Moldova so far this year resulted in 17 deaths. Three of the victims were children.
