The statement about the Law on the Equality of Chances made by the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and all Moldova Vladimir in Parliament is a homophobic one. It was made in the context of the plans of the organization for the protection of the rights of sexual minorities in Moldova “Genderdoc-M” to stage the annual festival “Moldova Pride” in May, the organization’s programs coordinator Angela Frolov stated for Radio Free Europe in an interview, IPN reports.
According to her, “Genderdoc-M” is preparing an Easter congratulatory letter for the Metropolitan Bishop and for all the representatives of the Orthodox Church in Moldova. The letter will be from the LGBT community and those who support it. By it, they will wish the Christians a lot of power on the road to love and respect for the people. “We invite them to take part in our festival that will start on May 10 with a press briefing. They can give the welcoming speech. We will issue a special invitation to His Holiness. That’s all. I have no other comments. I don’t know how Christian the Metropolitan Bishop is in this respect, but it is the God in whom he believes who will judge him,” stated Angela Frolov.
She also said that the people became more tolerant of the sexual minorities, but this is not due to the adoption of the Law on Equality of Chances. “The law only brought an element of fear for discriminating. Regretfully, in the Republic of Moldova things stand like this – not the respect, but the fear works. If this fear stops the people from discriminating and encroaching on the dignity of others, I think it’s good,” said Angela Frolov.
She noted that the Moldovan people travel more now and see how those from the West, who accept the diversity, live. When they return home, they have a different mentality.
