Mircea Snegur, Petru Lucinschi become Doctor Honoris Causa of ASM

Former Presidents of Moldova Mircea Snegur and Petru Lucinschi were conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM). A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Academy’s Supreme Council for Science and Technological Development on April 21, Info-Prim Neo reports. The proposal to confer the title was submitted by the ASM president Gheorghe Duca and first vice president Teodor Furdui. The president said such a decision was taken because this year it is 20 years of the foundation of the Republic of Moldova as an independent state. In a communiqué, the Academy says that this prestigious title is awarded to Mircea Snegur and Petru Lucinschi in gratitude for their personal contribution to strengthening Moldova’s sovereignty and independence, democratization of the national political system, and to developing the national scientific schools. Mircea Snegur was the first President of Moldova (1990-1996). He is a Doctor of Phytotechnie. Petru Lucinschi was President of Moldova in 1996-2001 and is a Doctor of Philosophy.
