The Ministry of the Interior (MoI) and the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) are proposing the creation of two national centers for crime prevention. The proposal was made at the meeting of the Supreme Security Council convened by President Nicolae Timofti on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco stated after the meeting that these potential centers would be subordinated to the Ministry of Justice.
Both Zubco and Interior Minister Dorin Recean revealed that a new crime reporting mechanism was being developed in line with the recent amendments to the Criminal Code. Minsiter Recean said that these changes would lead to a rise in the number of crimes reported.
President Nicolae Timofti stated that one crucial condition for reducing crime rate was the professionalism of the system's employees, adding that their salaries should be raised to avoid illicit sponsoring.
The President said he was pleased by the sustained efforts to identify and arrest criminal kingpins, noting with concern, however, the still rather high crime rate in the country and the failure to solve high-profile crimes.
