Prime Minister Iurie Leanca expressed condolences in his name and the name of the whole executive to the family and citizens of Belgium in connection with the death of former Premier Wilfried Martens, who headed the European People’s Party, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.
In his message, the Premier says that Wilfried Martens was a good friend of Moldova and a staunch supporter of the Eastern Partnership and the European Union’s enlargement to the East.
Iurie Leanca also says that the absence of Wilfried Martens from the November Vilnius Summit will be a great loss, but there is hope that the next steps will be taken to carry out the former Belgian Premier’s idea concerning the unity of the European nation that should develop in peace and prosperity.
