By 2030, Moldova aims to reach a 27% renewable energy share in final energy consumption and to also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 68.6% compared to 1990. The commitments are stipulated in the draft Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) 2025-2030, which was presented by the Ministry of Energy, IPN reports.

“The Republic of Moldova’s energy intensity is 3.4 times higher than the average in the European Union countries, which means higher energy costs per unit of GDP, but also for each family. This document sets the priorities and targets we need to achieve and the policies we need to implement to achieve the objectives of having secure, sustainable and affordable energy for all consumers,” said Minster of Energy Victor Parlicov.

Each year, new energy savings of 0.8% of the average annual consumption will be secured and at least 3% of the surface of public buildings will be made energy efficient annually. Buildings will be energy certified. The Residential Energy Efficiency Fund will be launched. Smart meters will be installed in consumers’ homes and smart chargers for electric cars with vehicle-to-grid technology will be promoted.

As for decarbonization, the document prioritizes the replacement of firewood with renewable energy and more efficient technologies so as to reach a 600 MW wind energy share and a 200 MW photovoltaic solar energy share.
