Moldova to face Ukraine in CIS Cup's Group B

The national Moldovan team will play in group B of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic Countries Cup against Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Latvia. The draw took place on Wednesday, December 28, at the the Russian Football Union, Info-Prim neo reports.
On January 19, the Tricolors will kick off the tournament against Ukraine and will play Latvia two day later. The game with Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for January 22.
This is the 20th edition of the competition and will gather 12 youth national teams. The games will be played between January 19 and 29 in Sankt Petersburg.
Group A includes the teams of Russia, Kazakhstan, Estonia and Turkmenistan. Meanwhile, Belarus, Iran, Tajikistan and Lithuania will face off in group C.
For the first time since 1993, the tournament won’t reunite the champions of former USSR countries. The organizers decided to change the format of the competition because it was beginning to lose the interest of participants and fans.
In 2003 and 2009, Sheriff Tiraspol won the CIS Cup, while Zimbru Chisinau reached the final in 2000. Other teams that represented Moldova at the CIS Cup have been Constructorul Chisinau, Dacia Chisinau and Iskra-Stal Ribnita.
