The Union of Professional Singers called upon the Head of Parliament, the Prime Ministers and the competent institutions to make sure that the 30% quota of national products on the radio and TV stations of the country is observed. At the end of April, the Chisinau Court of Appeals suspended a relevant decision of the Broadcasting Coordination Council, IPN reports.

“We do not understand why our music in the country is promoted the last. No other country has such a low quota of national programs than Moldova,” the Union’s head Nelly Ciobanu told a news conference. She said there is a danger that the national programs and the songs in Romanian will disappear. “Our songs are an element for educating love for the country, mother, children and everything that is beautiful in our people,” stated the singer.

Singer Adrian Ursu told the same news conference that the artists make effort to convince the TV and radio stations that Moldova has national products that deserve being promoted. The singers would produce more autochthon music if it was better disseminated.

Singer Aura said the generations of children from Moldova grow up listening to foreign music. “We want our children to listen to our music. This is patriotic education. Our artists must be the stars that the children would want to follow,” she stated, adding that the 30% quota of national products is insufficient and should be raised to 70%.

According to singer Costi Burlacu, the situation of the singers in Moldova is very difficult. The pop music is broadcast on radio and TV to a certain extent, while the folk music is practically not promoted. “We risk remaining without folklore,” he stated.

After the news conference, the singers staged a flashmob meting themed “We sing ‘falsely’ for the ‘false’ decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeals”.

The Broadcasting Coordination Council’s decision according which the national products in the program services of the TV and radio stations must represented at least 30% of the broadcast volume came into force on April 1. Thirteen media trusts appealed the decision and the Chisinau Court of Appeals suspended it.
