Moldovan Parliament takes over PABSEC chairmanship

The Parliament of Moldovan will take over the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) from the Greek Parliament for the first half of 2015. Speaker Igor Corman is attending the 44th PABSEC meeting in Athens, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Parliament, Igor Corman stressed in his speech PABSEC's role in maintaining stability, prosperity and peace in the Black Sea region. “The Moldovan Parliament has always considered that this interparliamentary organization has an active and efficient contribution to ensuring regional stability”, said the Speaker.

He reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to promote democracy and defend human rights, mentioning that Moldova, alongside Georgia and Ukraine, has signed and ratified agreements of association with the UE, including free trade agreements. “The PABSEC platform provides the necessary framework for interparliamentary political dialogue, focused on common economic interests, especially as it reunites countries belonging to different economic area such as the EU, the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union or the Commonwealth of Independent States”, said the official.

Igor Corman also spoke about Moldovan's European agenda and stressed that the result of the parliamentary elections on November 30 reconfirmed that Moldova's economic and political future is in the EU.

Corman announced the priorities of the Moldovan PABSEC chairmanship and they concern the development of commercial and economic relations, of transport infrastructure, of healthcare systems, and support in a number of fields such as IT, culture and tourism.
