A number of 144 military men of Peacekeeping Battalion No. 22, the Special Destination Battalion and combat engineers will take part in a multinational peacekeeping exercise in Hohenfels, Germany. The contingent includes eight women, Info-Prim Neo reports. The servicemen and servicewomen will be on the mission for 24 hours. This is the third time that Moldova takes part in this exercise. All the military men and women chosen for this mission work in the armed forces on a contract basis and know English. “In Germany, they will carry out peacekeeping missions that involve patrolling, escorting, provision of humanitarian aid in the field,” said the commander of Battalion No. 22 Roman Ceban. The exercise includes two stages: training, and practice, in cooperation with military men from 12 countries. Attending the dispatch ceremony, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta said that the military men must train not only on the national ranges, but also together with the strategic partners. “Moldova must become a security producer. I hope that our military men will go not only on training missions, but also on real peacekeeping missions so as to show our partners that we can not only take, but also offer,” he stated. The exercise is organized by the U.S. Army. The 144 servicemen will go to Germany on March 1.
