The Ukrainian Embassy in Chisinau said in a press release on Friday the Moldovan citizens traveling to Ukraine will be subject to a selective verification to see if they meet the new maintenance requirements, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ukraine's government on May 6 modified the rules for entering and transiting the territory of Ukraine, under which Moldovan travelers will have to produce a proof at the border demonstrating that they have enough funds to support themselves during the stay in Ukraine. No maintenance funds are required if the traveler is just transiting the country or resides in border areas.
It was explained that, occasionally, the Ukrainian border guards will perform selective checks for presence of maintenance funds on visitors, including from Moldova.
“The goal of this ordinance is to improve the entry control system for foreigners and stateless persons on the territory of Ukraine and in no case means a revision of the visa-free travel regime existing between Ukraine and Moldova”, it was aid in the embassy's press release.
The updated entry requirements will take effect with their publishing.
