Moldova's consul to Frankfurt gets disciplinary sanction

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration imposed a disciplinary sanction on Dumitru Socolan, Moldova's Consul General to the German city of Frankfurt, after he was responsible for a traffic accident in May, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Ministry noted that Dumitru Socolan was not under the influence of alcohol, as confirmed by tests from relevant German authorities. The consul was however sanctioned, because the incident was likely to affect the image of Moldova in the state of accreditation and caused damage to the vehicle of the Moldovan diplomatic mission, the Ministry explained. It was earlier reported that on May 22 the diplomat failed to negotiate a curve while driving a Mercedes at a speed close to the upper limit allowed. Dumitru Socolan was appointed Consul General to Frankfurt in September 2009. He occupied the post before, under the Communist government, in 2001-2005.
