The total number of students in secondary technical vocational schools is 14 500 students, 4.3% more than last year. And the number of students in post-secondary technical vocational education increased to 33 300, 3.2% more than in the previous year of studies, IPN reports, referring to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The most sought-after occupations are cook, mechanic, confectioner, electrician-assembler, plasterer, seamstress in light industry and data processing operator. About 72% of the total number of students are boys.
This school year, secondary technical vocational education was organized in eight centres of excellence and 32 vocational schools, 6 fewer institutions than last year. Post-secondary technical vocational education was organized in 14 centres of excellence and 35 colleges, one institution less than in the previous year.
Statistics show that 43.4% of students in secondary education opted for three-year and 42% - for two-year trades. Dual education of 1-2 years duration was chosen by 14.1% of pupils and only 0.5% chose one-year trades.
The distribution of students by gender in post-secondary education reveals a ratio of 53.3% for girls and 46.7% for boys.
Regarding the distribution by fields of study, 23.7% chose business, administration and law, 22.3% chose engineering, manufacturing technologies, architecture and construction, and 17.1% chose health and social work. Information technology was followed by 11.7%, while 9.8% of students opted for the service sector.
