People who spend their time in the Chisinau's leisure areas, especially in the parks and in the woods, leave piles of garbage behind. The amount of garbage evacuated from leisure areas during a week equals the amount previously collected from throughout city, Green Spaces Agency head Eliferii Haruta told the City Hall's ordinary meeting on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Yesterday I checked the leisure areas in the city, but I would have better not. They look as if after war. You can’t see the tables under the garbage’, Eliferii Haruta said. Last week, 136 truckloads of garbage were evacuated from leisure areas alone, an amount normally collected throughout the city in a week.
The situation on the city's beaches is not much better, with the municipal authorities complaining that people leave a lot of garbage there. In order to prevent shower cabins from being used as toilets, the walls of the cabins will be raised so as more free space is left between the ground and the parapet.
Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca thinks the problem is in that Green Spaces agents are not authorized to fine the people who make the garbage. This authority is granted to police and environmental officers, the latter, however, don’t work on week-ends when the beaches and green areas are most populated.
On Saturday and Sunday, 24 tickets were issued for throwing garbage around. These were sent to district police offices and the authorized entities will decide on the size of the fine to be paid. The legislation provides fines of 400-500 lei for individuals and 1000-2000 lei for legal entities.
