The State Main Tax Inspectorate considers that the inspections carried out by the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) in the morning of February 15 are a media show of bad taste, aimed at intimidating and discrediting those concerned, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the institution, the NAC inspections are not at all accidental and were caused by the radical change of attitude of the State Main Tax Inspectorate towards those who commit tax evasion and towards the phantom companies. Accidentally or not, the intimidation actions take place in exactly the same period when the actions of a group of ICT and metal export companies are analyzed.
The Inspectorate says the inspections are unfounded and coincided with the checks performed by the State Tax Service at the company Metal Feros, where there were identified record frauds for Moldova.
“Several weeks ago, they started to make threats, but now we witness a very dangerous phenomenon for a state of law, when the state institutions are used to intimidate other institutions,” reads the communiqué.
The National Anticorruption Center, in concert with prosecutors, carried out a number of inspections, including at the Main State Tax Inspectorate, in the morning of February 15. The checks were performed as part of the investigations over criminal cases started against high-ranking officials for abuse of power and acts of corruption.
The head of the State Main Tax Inspectorate Nicolae Vicol was invited to the NAC to be informed that he will be investigated as a suspect.
