A Moldovan Parliament’s delegation is taking part in the winter session in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that is held in Strasbourg on January 27-31. On the first day of the session, the MPs will elect the new President of the PACE and the vice presidents, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from Parliament, the PACE session will center on the situation in Ukraine and the functioning of the democratic institutions in this country. The agenda also includes the prevention of racism and the intolerance in Europe, climate change, the influence of the Internet and new information technology on democracy, diversification of the energy sources, integration of migrants into the European countries, provision of assistance to Syrian refugees, etc.
Speeches at the PACE session will be delivered by Chancellor of Austria Werner Faymann, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland. Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz will present the report of the PACE Committee of Ministers and will answer MPs’ questions.
The Moldovan delegation is headed by Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici and includes MPs Ana Gutu, Stella Jantuan, Valeriu Ghiletski, Anatolie Arhire and Grigore Petrenco.
