The Chisinau City Hall and Alex Calancea Band are launching a cultural project entitled “Love Memory” within which the new generation of musicians will sing the most loved old songs written by such composers as Ion Aldea Teodorovici, Valentin Danga, and Mihai Dolgan.

Head of the Chisinau Culture Division Lucia Culev, in the news conference held to launch the project, said that music of the 1970s and 1980s will be performed in a concert on May 23. “The music is so beautiful that it must be heard. I would have the courage to transform a national project into an international one. As the Moldovans go everywhere, we can also go with this music and these voices everywhere,” she stated.

Interviewed by IPN, Emeritus Artist Stefan Petrache said the idea of such a project is not only fantastic, but also necessary as nothing has been done in this field for a long time. “Lucia and Alex came to me. We talked and I gave them the originals. We thus started to produce this concert,” said the artist

Project producer Alex Calancea said the young people forgot about those who composed and played good music in the past. The May 23 concert will revive the popular old songs in a new format. “The originals were modified because many of the songs were transposed and many voices that seemed good at the start didn’t match and we changed the songs. This concert represents the start of a series of performances. In summer, there will be produced a series of interviews with Stefan Petrache, Anatol Chiriac and other valuable composers of Moldova and young artists. We will also make a film about old music,” he stated.

On May 23, artists of the golden generation will sing old hits together with singers from the new generation on the stage of the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich”. Tickets are available at the Philharmonic’s box offices. The performance starts at 7pm.
